Game Hair Creation Technique + Maya Hair System Test

There are multiple ways in generating hair in Maya. In my case, I will try generate realistic hair by applying game hair creation technique.

Most game artist creates hair for their game characters by building mesh planes and properly organised them on the head or any particular parts of the body. From the mesh planes, they apply hair texture with alpha. For my case, I am not creating a game character but rather more realistic hair by using Maya Hair System. However, I will try to apply the game hair creation technique by using mesh planes as my base and the shape of the hair. From there, I will convert them to Maya hair which I find them easier and systematic. Here are some images of the test. ('Little Sister' 3D Model Character from my side fan project 'Bioshock')

Ryan Reynolds Hi-Polymodeling - Progress 02 (Done)

Busy with festival and family gathering. Hectic but Fun holiday. Anyway, only today that I find the chance to upload the complete hi-polymodel of Ryan Reynolds. Will probably progress on something else like the cloth and maya hair. Do texture and character posing. Get Realistic look as much as possible. And probably add another character to pose together with Ryan.

Total Hi-Polymodeling Duration of Completion: 5 days

Ryan Reynolds Hi-Polymodeling - Progress 01

Hipoly 3D modeling work in progress. Some companies prefer the artists show if they are able to create a 3D model without depending on any 3D sculpting software (in another word, classic manual poly modeling). I understand what they meant. They want to know if we had this fundamental knowledge of creating 3D model with the correct topology without depending too much on the 3D sculpting. It is not wrong to use 3D sculpting software to create a 3D model. In fact it helps artists to generate 3D model faster than the old fashion way of poly modeling. Therefore, for me, I prefer the old fashion way of poly modeling but it depends on situation.

Anyway, here I would like to share my progress in 3D poly modeling of Ryan Reynolds from scratch (no scuplting). Everything is done in Autodesk Maya at the moment. Getting the muscle shape was a headache but fun to do.

Current Progress Duration: 4 days
